As the Director of Client Services - Insurance, Melanie oversees the processing of all insurance applications. Melanie’s job requires her to manage lots of details, while working very closely with our clients. “There’s no shortage of things to do: my role is to keep us all organized, and to keep things moving forward!” she says.
Melanie tracks the insurance application process end to end: starting with information gathering to complete applications, relaying underwriters’ questions to clients, requesting medical records, scheduling medical exams, as well as implementing the new policy once approved and reviewed with the client. She assists with beneficiary changes and other day-to day-maintenance on clients’ insurance policies. Melanie helps Brian and April with client communication, meeting scheduling, preparation, and follow-up.
Melanie re-joined the LaRoche team in 2020, after some time away. She had initially joined the firm in 2017. She has significant work experience in the financial services industry. In the past Melanie worked at American Funds in customer support functions, as a trainer to new associates, and as a member of the web technology team. Prior to that, she worked at Geico Insurance in a customer service capacity.
“What I love about my job is getting to know our clients and their stories,” she says. Working at a large mutual fund provider where she fielded hundreds of calls a day didn’t allow for getting to know any specific clients on a deeper level. “I see the impact of our work through every client I touch, and I see what a difference it makes to have a risk management plan that provides for those you love.” Melanie finds the ability to make a difference in peoples’ lives particularly powerful.
Like all of her team members, Melanie appreciates the family feel of the practice. “Everyone has a voice here, and everyone is here to grow,” she says.
When she is not at the office, this Virginia Beach native enjoys going to the beach on a sunny day. A variety of projects such as graphic design, creating vinyl decals, drawing, and painting keep her creatively engaged.
